7 Signs Your Loved One Is Trying to Reach You From the Other Side

Grief is one of the most disorienting experiences a human being can move through. You lose someone, and the world keeps moving — but part of you stays behind, in the last conversation you had, in the space where they used to be.

And then something happens. A song comes on at exactly the right moment. You smell something familiar with no source. You dream of them so vividly it doesn't feel like a dream at all.

You're not imagining it.

After more than 20 years of working as a medium and connecting souls across the veil, I can tell you with certainty: our loved ones do not simply disappear. The body transitions. The soul does not. And those on the other side find ways — subtle, persistent, unmistakable ways — to let us know they are still present.

Here are seven of the most common signs, and what they often mean.

1. You Dream of Them — and It Feels Different

Not all dreams about the deceased are visitation dreams, but some are unmistakably so. A visitation dream has a quality of clarity and calm that ordinary dreams don't carry. Your loved one appears healthy, at peace, and often younger than when they passed. They may not say much — but you wake up feeling held rather than grieving.

If you've had a dream like this, it wasn't your mind processing loss. It was contact.

2. You Notice Meaningful Repetition — Numbers, Songs, Phrases

Do you keep seeing the same number sequence? Hearing a song that was significant to them at unexpected moments? Coming across their name in strange places?

Repetition is one of the ways souls on the other side create patterns we can't ignore. They can't tap you on the shoulder — but they can nudge the frequency around you until something catches your attention. If something keeps showing up, it's worth paying attention to.

3. Electronics Behave Strangely

Lights flickering. The television turning on or off on its own. Your phone playing a song with no apparent cause. A lamp that dims right when you're thinking of them.

Souls are energy. Electronics run on energy. Manipulation of electrical fields is one of the most commonly reported forms of contact across every culture and tradition. If this is happening in your home — especially in the early days after a loss — it's often exactly what it looks like.

4. You Smell Them

One of the most startling and comforting signs is catching their scent with no physical explanation. Their perfume or cologne in an empty room. The smell of their cooking when no one is near the kitchen. Tobacco, flowers, or something else distinctly theirs.

Scent is one of the most direct sensory pathways the soul uses to make itself known. It bypasses logic and lands directly in the body. If it happened to you, you already know — it didn't feel random.

5. Objects Move or Appear in Unexpected Places

Finding a feather, a coin, or a meaningful object in an unusual place is a well-documented form of communication from the other side. So is the experience of misplacing something only to find it exactly where you already looked.

Pay attention to what objects are involved. They are often symbolic — something connected to a memory, a shared joke, or something they knew you needed to find.

6. You Feel Their Presence

Not a visual. Not a sound. Just a sudden, unmistakable sense that someone is in the room with you. A warmth. A shift in the air. The feeling of being watched — but not in a way that frightens you.

This is one of the most common and most dismissed forms of contact, because it offers nothing the logical mind can hold onto. But the felt sense is real. The soul communicates through the body's knowing, not only through the five senses.

7. Animals Behave Strangely Around You or in Your Home

Pets are highly sensitive to frequencies we can't consciously perceive. If your dog or cat suddenly starts staring at an empty corner of the room, reacts to something you can't see, or behaves in a way that breaks their normal pattern — especially after a loss — they may be perceiving a presence.

Animals don't rationalize what they sense. They simply respond to it.

What to Do When You Notice the Signs

The first thing is this: acknowledge it. You don't have to explain it or justify it to anyone. Simply say — out loud or inwardly — I receive this. I hear you.

Contact from the other side rarely happens in dramatic, undeniable flashes. It tends to be quiet, layered, and consistent over time. The more you acknowledge what you're receiving, the more clearly the connection can come through.

If you are longing for something more direct — a specific message, clarity about how they crossed, confirmation that they are at peace, or the chance to say something that was left unsaid — that is what a mediumship session is for.

In a Beyond The Veil session, I act as a bridge. I don't perform or manufacture contact. I hold a clear channel between this dimension and the next, and what comes through is specific, evidential, and real. Many of my clients describe it as the most profound conversation of their life.
