The Cords That Bind Us

Most people believe relationships end when someone walks away.

They don't.

Not energetically.

One of the greatest misconceptions I see is that energetic cords simply disappear because a relationship has ended, a friendship has fallen apart, or someone has passed away.

That isn't what I observe.

I've watched people carry energetic connections to former partners for thirty years.

I've seen mothers still energetically connected to children who died decades earlier.

I've watched friendships continue influencing someone's confidence long after they haven't spoken in years.

Relationships don't simply leave memories.

They leave energetic architecture……a web of entanglement

And that architecture continues influencing your life until something changes.

Another misconception?

People think there's one energetic cord connecting two people.

Again...that isn't what I see. The deeper the relationship...the more complex the energetic architecture usually becomes.

I've seen relationships connected through two...three...sometimes several different energy centers.

Think about that for a moment.

One person may be connected to your heart because of love. Your throat because they shaped your voice. Your solar plexus because they influenced your confidence.

Every relationship writes itself differently into your energetic system.

And here's where it becomes even more fascinating.

Not all cords attach in healthy ways.

People often imagine a cord connecting beautifully from one chakra to another.

Sometimes that's exactly what I see.

Other times...

I don't.

I've watched cords wrap themselves around the stem of a chakra instead of flowing naturally into it. Imagine a vine slowly tightening around the stem of a flower. The flower is still alive. But eventually it can't bloom.

I've seen this repeatedly around the throat chakra in relationships where someone has spent years being criticized, controlled or afraid to speak.

The person tells me,

"I don't even know who I am anymore."

Energetically...that makes perfect sense.

Here's something almost nobody talks about. Sometimes a relationship doesn't simply end. It rips itself out of your energetic system. I've seen relationships end so violently...so suddenly...that it doesn't feel like a cord has been released.

It feels like something has torn. Imagine pulling the roots from the ground instead of cutting the stem. Sometimes what remains is an energetic wound.

This is why some people spend years saying,

"I should be over this by now."

Maybe emotionally they are.

Energetically...their system is still trying to repair itself. This is why healing matters. Not because time failed.

Because the energetic system is still carrying the injury.

Sometimes the Cord Didn't Begin in This Lifetime

Here's where things become even more fascinating.

Not every energetic cord I encounter appears to have been created during this lifetime. Sometimes I'll be working with someone around a relationship they simply cannot understand.

They'll say,

"I don't even like this person...so why can't I stop thinking about them?"

Or...

"I have an irrational fear of losing them, and it makes absolutely no sense."

Or perhaps they have just met someone…….It's only been a few weeks. Yet it feels as though they've known them forever. The relationship moves with an intensity that seems completely disproportionate to the amount of time they've actually spent together.

When I explore these situations energetically, I will sometimes discover that what we're looking at didn't begin here.

The energetic cord appears far older than the relationship itself. Almost as though two souls have continued an unfinished conversation across lifetimes. And this is where things can become incredibly confusing.

Because your conscious mind only has access to this lifetime.

Your mind says,

"I've only known this person for three months."

Yet your energetic system responds as though you've known them for centuries.

Imagine walking into a movie halfway through.

You have no idea what happened in the first hour, but everyone on the screen is reacting as though years of history already exist. That's often what these relationships feel like. The emotional intensity doesn't match the current circumstances because the energetic relationship didn't begin with this chapter.

Sometimes these older cords create extraordinary love. Sometimes they create deep trust.

But they can also carry unresolved grief...

betrayal...

guilt...

fear...or unfinished promises that continue influencing the present without you ever understanding why.

This is one of the reasons people often say,

"I know this doesn't make sense..."

They're right.

It doesn't make sense...if you're only looking through the lens of this lifetime.

One of the greatest gifts of healing is not simply releasing the cord.

It's understanding it. Because once you begin seeing where the connection originated...why it still exists...and what it has been trying to teach you...the energetic relationship often begins changing naturally.

Sometimes the cord strengthens into something healthy.

Sometimes it gently unwinds.

Sometimes it was never asking to be removed at all.

It was asking to be completed.

Why We Repeat the Same Patterns

This is why changing relationship patterns can be so incredibly difficult. Most people believe they're simply trying to change a habit. From what I've observed, it's much deeper than that.

When you've shared years with someone, you aren't just carrying memories. You're carrying an energetic relationship that has literally wired itself into your system.

Those cords have transmitted love...

fear...

trust...

betrayal...

communication...

silence...and countless emotional experiences over time.

Eventually, your energetic system begins responding automatically.

The same argument.

The same fear.

The same emotional reaction.

The same feeling of abandonment.

The same need to rescue.

The same inability to speak your truth.

It becomes a pattern because, energetically, you've been living that pattern together for years. You're not simply remembering it. You're still connected to it. This is why trying to "just move on" or "think differently" often isn't enough.

If the energetic architecture hasn't changed, the relationship can continue replaying itself long after the physical relationship has ended.

In some cases, healing is about strengthening healthy cords. In others, it's about repairing energetic wounds that were left behind after a traumatic ending.Sometimes it involves gently unwinding cords that have become distorted over time.

And occasionally...it does require severing an energetic connection that no longer serves either person.

Every situation is different.

Every relationship carries its own energetic story.

This is one of the reasons I often recommend that clients dedicate an entire healing session solely to exploring their energetic cords.

Not because every cord needs to be cut.

Far from it.

But because every cord deserves to be understood.

Sometimes the greatest transformation comes from simply allowing healthy energy to flow again.

Other times, the energetic system needs what I can only describe as a rewiring—a restoration of the natural pathways that have become shaped by years of repeating the same emotional and energetic patterns.

When that happens, people often tell me something remarkable.

"I still remember the relationship...but it no longer has a hold on me."

To me, that's the difference.

The past doesn't disappear.

But it finally becomes the past.

Because until those energetic connections are understood and healed, the past doesn't always stay in the past.

Sometimes...a part of you is still connected to it.
