20 Questions to Ask in Your Akashic Records Session That Changes Everything
Most people walk into their first Akashic Records session with the same three questions. What's my purpose? Am I with the right person? When will things get easier?
Nothing wrong with any of those. But they're surface questions and the Records don't reward surface questions with surface answers. They reward precision.
I've been reading the Akashic Records for over 20 years, and if there's one thing I tell every client before we open a session, it's this: your question is the key. Not a suggestion, not a formality — the actual mechanism. A vague question opens a vague door. A precise question opens the vault.
“Your Akashic Records hold your past lives, your current reality and future possibilities........this is your opportunity to explore it all.”
So I put together the list I wish every client walked in with. The Records were never meant to confirm what you already think you know — they exist to reveal what's actually hidden beneath it. These are the questions that don't stop at the surface story. They're the ones that crack open the deeper truth of your life, and your existence, that's been waiting underneath it all along.
Questions About Your Soul's Original Blueprint
Before the personality, before the conditioning, before you learned to make yourself smaller for other people's comfort — there was a blueprint. These questions go straight to it.
1. What did I come here to do that I haven't started yet? Not your job title. Not your five-year plan. This question goes straight to the blueprint — the thing your soul agreed to before you ever took a breath in this body. In session, this is often where the Records show me a skill, a calling, or a way of being that's been sitting dormant, waiting for permission.
2. What gift or ability am I minimizing because it feels "too easy" for me to be valuable? The things that come effortlessly to you are usually the things your soul mastered across many lifetimes — which is exactly why they feel unremarkable to you. This question exposes what you've been quietly dismissing as nothing.
3. What past lifetime is greatly influencing me in this life? This opens the door to past-lives. Past lives have a huge impact on this lifetime being able.
4. What is my soul actually trying to master in this incarnation? Different from purpose. Purpose is what you're here to do. Mastery is what you're here to become. This is one of the deeper questions I take clients into, because mastery is rarely a single lesson — it's usually a thread running quietly through multiple lifetimes, and the Records will show you exactly where you are on that thread.
Questions About Patterns and What's Really Running the Show
This is where most people find out the thing they called "just my personality" was never a personality at all. It was a strategy. And strategies have origins.
5. What pattern have I mistaken for my personality? This is one of the most quietly devastating questions on this list, in the best way. So much of what we think is "just who I am" is actually an old survival strategy still running on autopilot. The Records will show you where it started.
6. What am I protecting myself from by staying small? Every self-sabotage pattern has a reason, and the reason is almost never the one you'd guess consciously. This question goes under the behavior to the fear that built it.
7. What vow, promise, or oath from a past life is still shaping decisions I make today? This one surprises people every time. Vows of poverty, silence, celibacy, sacrifice — they don't expire just because the lifetime did. If you've ever felt like something invisible is capping your success, your voice, or your ability to receive, this is often where it traces back to.
8. What relationship keeps repeating in different costumes, and why? Same dynamic, different face. The controlling partner, the withholding friend, the parent who shows up disguised as a boss. This question names the pattern directly and asks the Records to show you the why, not just confirm what you already sense.
9. What am I still bracing for that already happened? The body doesn't always know the danger has passed. This question uncovers where your nervous system is still on guard for something from a different lifetime — or an earlier chapter of this one.
Questions About Relationships and Soul Contracts
No one in your life is there by accident. Not the one who stayed, and not the one who left without warning. These questions ask the Records to name what you've only ever felt.
10. What did I agree to with this person before either of us arrived here? Whether it's a partner, a parent, a child, or the friend who left without warning — every significant relationship in your life was agreed to on some level before you got here. This question reveals the actual contract underneath the connection you can't stop thinking about.
11. Is this relationship a soul contract that's complete, or one that's still unfolding? This is the question people are almost afraid to ask because they're afraid of the answer. But knowing whether you're in the middle of something or at the natural end of it changes everything about how you show up.
12. What did I come to learn from the person who hurt me the most? Not to excuse what happened. To understand the soul-level exchange underneath it, so you can actually close the loop instead of carrying it forward into your next relationship.
13. What soul family am I meant to find in this lifetime, and have I met them yet? Some people are here to walk their path mostly alone. Others have a soul group they're meant to find. This question tells you which one you are — and sometimes, who's already in your life without you realizing what they are to you.
Questions About What's Blocking You
Something is capping you. You've felt it — the invisible ceiling, the pattern of getting almost there and stalling. These questions go find out what it actually is.
14. What am I energetically still tied to that I need to release? Cords, agreements, old loyalties — sometimes what's draining you isn't a current relationship at all, it's an unreleased tie from somewhere else entirely. This is where session work often moves from information into actual clearing.
15. Where did I give my power away, and to whom? Everyone has a moment — sometimes several lifetimes' worth of moments — where they handed their authority to someone else for safety, love, or survival. This question finds the original exchange so it can actually be reclaimed, not just talked about.
16. What belief is my soul ready to let go of, even if my mind isn't? There's often a gap between what you know intellectually and what you're actually ready to release energetically. This question speaks directly to the part of you that's ahead of your conscious mind.
17. What am I afraid will happen if I finally succeed? Fear of failure gets all the attention. Fear of success is quieter and, in my experience over 20+ years of session work, far more common than people expect. This question exposes it directly.
Questions About Timing and Direction
Sometimes the answer isn't what — it's when. These are the last two questions to ask, because they tie everything above them together.
18. Is this the right timing for the decision I'm sitting with, or am I forcing something? The Records don't just hold your history — they hold the rhythm of your life. This question is for anyone standing at a crossroads who can't tell if they're being called forward or pushing too hard, too soon.
19. What door is actually open right now that I keep walking past? Sometimes the opportunity isn't hidden — it's just not the one you were expecting, so you don't recognize it. This question redirects your attention to what's already available.
20. What does my soul need me to know before I ask anything else? Save this one for the end of your list, or use it as your only question if you can't decide where to start. It hands the floor to the Records themselves — and in my experience, this is often where the most unexpected, most necessary information comes through.
